Prosecution to call more witnesses in trial of man charged with killing 8 at NC nursing home
CARTHAGE, N.C. (AP) ' Prosecutors continue to gather witness testimony as they seek to build a case against the man charged with killing eight people at a central North Carolina nursing home.
Potential witnesses who could testify Tuesday include Wanda Neal, the ex-wife of the man on trial.
Prosecutors say Robert Stewart was looking for Neal on March 29, 2009, when he arrived at Pinelake Health and Rehabilitation Center with four guns and a bag of ammunition. Stewart didn't find his ex-wife, but shot 11 people, killing eight of them.
His lawyers acknowledge he pulled the trigger that day, but say a combination of depression and prescription medication left him unable to understand his actions.
The trial began last week and could last up to eight weeks.
