Trial winding down in Fla. burned teen case
Trial winding down in case of alleged ringleader in burning attack on Florida teenager
By The Associated Press

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) ' The trial is winding down in the attempted second-degree murder case against a South Florida teenager accused of orchestrating a burning attack against another youth.

The prosecution's final witness Thursday was the victim, 17-year-old Michael Brewer. It's unclear if defendant Matthew Bent will testify in his own defense. If not, closing arguments could come as early as Friday.

The 17-year-old Bent faces a maximum 30 years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors say Bent offered another boy money to pour rubbing alcohol on Brewer in the October 2009 attack. A third boy set him ablaze with a lighter. Those two pleaded no contest and are serving prison time.

The attack came after Bent and Brewer got into a dispute over money and Bent's alleged attempt to steal a Brewer family bicycle.
