By John Virata

The Tritton AX 180 universal gaming headset is designed to work with the three major gaming platforms (Wii, xBox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3, via analog inputs), but also with both Macintosh and Windows based computers.

The unit features a 12.5 ft cable for ample mobility, stereo analog inputs (two RCA or 3.5mm stereo). The headset features a pair of 40mm drivers, USB communication support for PS3, PC, and Mac, XBox Live communications port, signal to noise ratio of 95dB, frequency response of 25Hz-22kHz, and THD at 97dB. Built into the cable is an in line audio controller for both voice volume control as well as game audio volume control.

The AX 180s ($69)are an ideal budget headset for those who wish to have the widest compatibility of a gaming headset. For those who move from Wii to xBox, and PS3 to PC and Macintosh games, the headset is ideal. In addition to competent sound, the headset also features a removable mic to keep communications open in those situations when communicating with your fellow gamer is important.

It also features a breakaway cable design in the event things get out of hand on the gaming field. The headset has a bit of weight to it that takes getting used to, but the earpads are padded with a faux leather that is soft and spongy to the touch, AND are not rigid, meaning that they are flexible and self adjust to virtually any human head configuration. They also rotate 45 degrees to ensure that you don't accidentally break them. In fact, the earpads and headband are both covered in the soft, faux leather. www.trittontechnologies.com
