National Hurricane Center: Tropical Storm Greg forms in the Pacific off Mexico's coast
MIAMI (AP) ' Tropical Storm Greg has formed in the Pacific off Mexico's southwest coast.
The storm has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 kph) early Wednesday and the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm is expected to strengthen and become a hurricane on Thursday.
The storms is centered about 135 miles (220 kilometers) south-southwest of Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and is moving west-northwest near 16 mph (26 kph). The hurricane center says Greg's track will keep its center offshore of Mexico's coast.
Meanwhile, far away from land, Tropical Storm Fernanda is moving slowly west in the Pacific with little change in strength. The storm's maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 kph) with some slight strengthening possible but it's not expected to threaten land.
