Trusties booted from Governor's Mansion in Miss.
Amid pardons criticism: Miss. Gov. Bryant bars trusties from working in Governor's Mansion
By The Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) ' Amid controversy over pardons issued by then-Gov. Haley Barbour, state prison trusties in Mississippi are no longer working at the Governor's Mansion under Gov. Phil Bryant.

Bryant told The Clarion-Ledger ( ) that Thursday was the last day a trusty would work at the downtown Jackson landmark.

Bryant's announcement follows criticism over Barbour's decision Jan. 6 to pardon four murderers and one robber who were mansion trusties during his second term.

Bryant, who plans to move his family to the mansion in two months, wouldn't comment further. But he has said he's particularly sensitive to victims' rights because his aunt was kidnapped, raped and murdered in 1981. Her killer is serving a life sentence.
