KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ' A helicopter belonging to a Turkish company crashed into a house near the Afghan capital Kabul on Friday, killing 10 on board the aircraft and two on the ground, police said.

Authorities were trying to determine the nationalities of the people who were in the helicopter when it crashed, said Hashmat Stanekzai, spokesman for the Kabul police chief. Some of the bodies were almost completely burned, he said.

The house hit by the helicopter collapsed, Stanekzai said. Rescue workers were searching through the rubble to determine whether there were any more casualties, he said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu confirmed that a Turkish helicopter crashed near Kabul, but he did not have information about casualties.

Davutoglu said the Turkish commander of the Kabul regional command left for the area.

The aircraft went down in Hassian Khail area of Bagrami district of Kabul province, Stanekzai said.

It was unclear what caused the helicopter to crash.
