Lower airfares help push UK inflation rate down to 3 pct in April from 3.5 pct in March
LONDON (AP) ' Official data shows that consumer price inflation in Britain fell to 3 percent in April, a bigger drop than expected and the lowest since February 2010.
Consumer inflation was 3.5 percent in March.
The Office for National Statistics said Tuesday that clothing and footwear prices rose by just 0.2 percent compared with last year, and lower airfares and the timing of the Easter holiday helped cut inflation.
Analysts say high inflation is one of the reasons the Bank of England has been wary of agreeing to more stimulus for the economy ' if the drop in inflation is sustained in coming months, the Bank may consider injecting more money into the economy.
The inflation rate for now remains stubbornly high. It has been stuck above the government's 2 percent target since December 2009.
