UK's biggest union joins Nov. 30 'day of action' strikes by public sector workers
LONDON (AP) ' Members of Britain's biggest union have voted to join a one-day strike on Nov. 30 to protest changes in public sector pensions.
The Unite Union said Thursday that 75 percent of those who returned ballots supported the strike.
The union says it represents 200,000 public sector workers; it sent ballots to 137,000 of them, and 31 percent actually voted.
Unite general secretary Len McCluskey says public sector workers had suffered wage cuts, rising living costs and job losses. McCluskey says public sector workers were telling the government that "enough is enough."
The one-day strike is potentially the biggest day of union action since 1979.
