Short-lived sales ban highlights relationship between campuses, energy drink companies
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) ' The University of New Hampshire's short-lived decision to ban sales of nonalcoholic energy drinks on campus has created more buzz than the caffeinated beverages themselves.
UNH announced Monday that it would stop selling Red Bull and three other energy drinks in January for both health and safety reasons. But by Thursday, it had delayed and then reversed the decision, saying there was no clear evidence students are abusing the drinks by mixing them with alcohol.
UNH, like hundreds of other colleges, has a longstanding relationship with the leading energy drink manufacturer, Red Bull.
In the last year, Red Bull has brought sporting events to the school, had its team of skydivers drop into the school's football stadium and given away prizes on campus.
