US expresses relief after aid workers leave Egypt, says no decision yet on $1.5 billion in aid
WASHINGTON (AP) ' The U.S. is expressing its relief that Egypt has lifted a travel ban against seven American democracy workers and allowed them to leave the country.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland says the decision was made by Egypt's judicial system. But she cautions the case is not over.
Nuland also says no decision has been made on $1.5 billion in aid the U.S. wanted to provide Egypt.
The money was jeopardized by Egypt's decision to charge the Americans with allegedly fomenting unrest.
Thursday's departure of the Americans eases the worst crisis in U.S.-Egypt relations in 30 years.
The Americans were cleared after the U.S. posted nearly $5 million in bail.
