US says no cooperation with WikiLeaks on cable dump, condemns new disclosures
PARIS (AP) ' The U.S. State Department says WikiLeaks informed it of the impending release of hundreds of thousands of sensitive diplomatic cables. But the department says it is not cooperating with the anti-secrecy group and condemns its actions as "irresponsible, reckless and frankly dangerous."
Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters accompanying Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to an international conference on Libya that WikiLeaks had once again ignored U.S. requests to not publish the documents. She said the release threatens the U.S. national security and the safety of confidential informants named in the cables.
WikiLeaks said Thursday that its massive archive of unredacted U.S. State Department cables had been exposed in a security breach which it blamed on its one-time partner, Britain's Guardian newspaper.
