US wants Detroit bomb suspect to be medicated
US seeks forced medication for man accused of leaving explosive outside Detroit building
By The Associated Press

MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) ' Federal prosecutors are seeking forced medication for a man charged with leaving an explosive outside a Detroit federal building.

A year after his arrest, Gary Mikulich remains in custody and has been ruled incompetent to face the charges against him. The government this week asked a judge to order involuntary treatment to improve Mikulich's mental health.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Greeley hasn't decided. An email seeking comment was left for Mikulich's attorney Friday. His mother, Pat Mikulich, says court-ordered medication has helped her son in the past.

Mikulich, of Kingsford, Mich., is charged with leaving a tool bag containing explosive components outside the McNamara Federal Building in Detroit. Guards brought the bag inside the building where it sat for nearly three weeks until it was scanned and subsequently destroyed.
