Vets: Killer whale in Alaska river was pregnant
Necropsy: Killer whale that remained in Alaska river for weeks was pregnant
By The Associated Press

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ' A necropsy on a killer whale that died after remaining for weeks in an Alaska river shows she was pregnant.

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service says a team of veterinarians on Tuesday performed a necropsy on the whale found floating in the Nushagak River on Saturday.

There was no evidence that human interactions caused the death. The necropsy determined that the whale was carrying a late-term fetus, which the veterinarians say could indicate the whale was having pregnancy complications.

The team will perform a necropsy on a second killer whale also found dead in the river. A third whale, a juvenile, has been spotted in the Nushagak but not seen recently.
