Violin prodigy among Jefferson Awards recipients
NY violin prodigy among Jefferson Awards recipients; raised $5M for global pediatric research

NEW YORK (AP) ' A New York violin prodigy has channeled his musical talents to raise more than $5 million for pediatric medical research around the globe, headlining benefit concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

Jourdan Urbach is receiving one of the nation's highest public service awards on Tuesday ' the Jefferson Awards.

The 20-year-old resident of the Long Island community of Roslyn founded Concerts for a Cure when he was 7 years old. The money he's raised has funded 12 life-saving neurosurgeries, pediatric clinics in Africa and El Salvador and a bedside music program at a hospital in Michigan.

He's among four Americans 25 years and under to be recognized as a Jefferson Awards "Globe Changer."

The awards were founded in 1972. They are known as "the Nobel Prize for public service."
