WH homeland security chief: No specific terror plot targeting the 10-year anniversary of 9/11
WASHINGTON (AP) ' President Barack Obama's homeland security and counterterrorism adviser says there's no specific or credible threat targeting the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. But he says there are concerns that al-Qaida or a terror-minded individual will see the anniversary as an opportunity to attack.
John Brennan told The Associated Press that officials worry about lone actors operating under the radar who are more difficult for the intelligence community to discover.
Brennan says the FBI has done a good job over the years in tracking down leads and looking for individuals who have an extremist ideology that inspires them to commit violence. And he said the nation as a whole is much better about sharing intelligence than it was 10 years ago.
Security around the country is intensifying at airports, train stations, nuclear plants and major sporting arenas as the nation prepares for the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Al-Qaida has cited the date as a potential opportunity to strike again.
