Consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren launches US Senate campaign with tour of Massachusetts
BOSTON (AP) ' Harvard Law professor and consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren has officially launched her campaign for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts.
The Democrat kicked off Wednesday morning by greeting commuters at a Boston rail station. She planned to visit New Bedford, Framingham, Worcester, Springfield, Lowell, and Gloucester later in the day.
Warren says she is running against Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown to stand up for a middle class she says has been "chipped at, hacked at, squeezed and hammered."
She says Washington is rigged to benefit corporations.
At least five other Democrats have already launched campaigns.
Warren was tapped by President Barack Obama last year to set up a new consumer protection agency, but congressional Republicans opposed her leading the office. She worked to set up the agency before returning to Massachusetts.
