By The Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) ' Washington state Sen. Scott White has been found dead in a Cle Elum hotel room. He was 41.

White spokeswoman Dana Robinson Slote said Friday night that he died earlier in the day. She did not immediately have information on the cause of death.

The Democrat represented the state's 46th District, covering northern parts of Seattle. White joined the Senate last year and rose to serve as the Senate's majority whip, advocating for transit issues as a caucus transportation leader. He worked most recently as a project manager at the University of Washington.

Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown says White was an extraordinarily talented leader who approached the job with a rare level of nobility and honor.

Scott is survived by his wife and two children.
