Wet concrete strikes, injures 4 construction workers in San Francisco; 3 in critical condition
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ' Authorities in San Francisco say four construction workers were injured, three critically, after they were struck by wet concrete while working on a building.
Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge says concrete being poured on the roof of the six-story building struck the workers Wednesday morning, covering them in sludge. Two of the workers fell about 30 feet after being hit.
Talmadge says all four were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where three of them were in critical condition. The fourth worker's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The workers' names have not been released. The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/pkI6vA) they were employed by Nibbi Brothers General Contractors of San Francisco. A message left for company officials wasn't immediately returned.
State workplace safety investigators and city building inspectors are on the scene.
