Wife of ex-IRA member key force in BC tapes case
Wife of ex-IRA member key lobbying force in fight over Boston College oral history project
By The Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) ' A battle over recorded interviews with former members of the Irish Republican Army has been the subject of countless court hearings and legal briefs.

But for the wife of one former IRA member, the legal fight is personal.

Anthony McIntyre is an ex-IRA gunman who conducted the interviews for a Boston College oral history project. His wife, Carrie Twomey, has been trying to convince U.S. politicians that turning over the recordings to the British government could endanger her family.

Prosecutors say they must comply with a request for the interviews, which feature IRA members talking about what they and others did during Northern Ireland's four-decade conflict.

McIntyre and an Irish journalist who directed the project are asking an appeals court to block the handover.

Arguments are scheduled for Wednesday.
