Wildfires threaten remote West Texas resort
Wildfires threaten remote West Texas mountain resort also hit hard by 2011 wildfire
By The Associated Press

FORT DAVIS, Texas (AP) ' About 250 firefighters are maneuvering rugged, remote canyons in West Texas as they battle the first major Texas wildfires of the season.

Texas Forest Service spokesman Patrick Allen said Tuesday evening that the fires have scorched about 24,000 acres near the historic town of Fort Davis, about 175 miles southeast of El Paso.

Part of the area experienced uncontrolled wildfires exactly a year ago.

No injuries or major damage has been reported, but Allen says the fires are threatening the rustic cabins in the remote Davis Mountain Resort. He says the closest fire is about a mile from the resort.

Allen says firefighters are being helped by calm winds, but the rugged terrain is complicating efforts to establish fire lines around the resort.
