Women, less conservative voters carry Romney to victory in FL GOP primary, exit poll shows
WASHINGTON (AP) ' An exit poll of voters in Florida's Republican presidential primary show that women, less conservative voters and people worried about the economy provided the victory margin for Mitt Romney.
While Romney was narrowly victorious Tuesday among men, he easily prevailed among women. About half of women voting chose the former Massachusetts governor, compared to around 3 in 10 who voted for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich outpolled Romney among very conservative voters, and the two split tea party supporters about evenly. But Romney won easily among those saying they are somewhat conservative, moderate or liberal, and among people who aren't tea party backers.
Around 6 in 10 Florida GOP voters said the economy was their biggest issue, and they preferred Romney by about 20 percentage points.
