Tigers Woods has unlucky start at Australian Open, 3 lip-outs through 6 holes
SYDNEY (AP) ' Tiger Woods watched three birdie putts lip out early in his opening round at the Australian Open on Thursday and was even par after six holes.
Woods' putt from 10 feet curled around the first hole Thursday, and his 18-footer on the fourth did the same thing. On the fifth, his ball did a complete horseshoe, and Woods looked exasperated as he tapped in for par.
On the par-4 sixth, Woods missed another birdie chance from about 6 feet, this time pulling his putt wide of the hole.
Playing with Australians Jason Day and Robert Allenby at The Lakes, Woods is attempting to end a two-year victory drought as he prepares for the Presidents Cup next week at Royal Melbourne.
Jarrod Lyle had the early Australian Open lead with a 7-under 65.
