Acclaimed writer William Boyd seeks to return to 'classic Bond' for next 007 novel
LONDON (AP) ' Acclaimed British novelist William Boyd will be the next hired gun to step into Ian Fleming's English-made shoes.
HarperCollins Publishers says Boyd has agreed to write an upcoming James Bond novel.
The publisher said Thursday the next Bond installment does not have a title yet.
Boyd, known for "Restless," ''Any Human Heart" and other books, will follow novelists Sebastian Faulks and Jeffrey Deaver, who have also written recent Bond novels.
The author calls the chance to write a Bond spy thriller a once in a lifetime opportunity. He says he wants to set the book in the late 1960s and to bring the Bond novels back to the classic style developed by Fleming, who died in 1964.
The book is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2013.
