Saints keep marching after dramatic overtime victory
With each passing win, the New Orleans Saints continue to validate the Who Dat chant. Yesterday’s victory was the craziest yet. Prior to Sunday, the Saints hadn’t played a game with an outcome closer than eight points, but that changed in a big way against the Redskins. After the game, Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said it was weird that his team had gone the entire season to date without being in a two minute situation to close out a game, but boy were they ever on Sunday. They came back from 15 points down to beat the Washington Redskins in overtime, their closest win of the season and now their win streak at eight to match their longest streak since 2011. "Unusual for any team to go as long as we've gone without kind of a scoring differential that didn't put us in either defending or a two-minute mode, we've had maybe one at the end of the half. And we were talking about it on Friday and sure enough it came up, and enough guys did enough good things and I was proud of how they hung in there,” said Payton. Defensive end Cameron Jordan said, "Our coach told us we hadn't been in a close game yet and he would love to see how we responded. Clearly, going into the fourth quarter and we were down by 15 points. That's hard to overcome in this league and not only did we overcome it, we made it one of our strengths." Running back Alvin Kamara said, "It's a defining win, I think it gives us even more confidence that we can go in and be down and not get down on ourselves and come back and get a great victory for these fans, for ourselves. It's just incredible, you know? It's an incredible game, it's just magical, you know?" Running back Mark Ingram said, "Just to be down 15 in the fourth quarter, everybody still having confidence in one another, everybody still believing in one another, that's strong, man. We have a great team, and championship teams have wins like that when you're not playing your best football, when you're down but you find some way to get the wins. So we've just got to keep fighting, we've got to keep improving, we've got to keep getting better and that's the bottom line." Quarterback Drew Brees said, "You're watching this thing come together before your eyes, and from where this started to where it is now. And we've grown in leaps and bounds, and I think the sky is the limit for this group. We're playing with a ton of confidence, I feel like we've got a ton of momentum. You win games like this and you feel like man, we can win anywhere, anytime, anyway. So that's a good thing." Now this win might seem eerily similar to the one over the Redskins back in 2009 during the Saints’ Super Bowl run in which they extended their win streak to 12 games at that point, winning in overtime in comeback fashion by three points. With the win and a Carolina bye week, the Saints are now a full game up in the NFC South standings with an overall record of 8-2.
