When the Cleveland Indians made former Southern Miss pitcher Nick Sandlin their second round pick in the 2018 MLB first year player draft they did a smart. Sandlin’s trail of dominance that continues to follow him from his time in Hattiesburg backs that up. Today, the CUSA Pitcher of the Year was honored by the league once again as the scholar-athlete of the year for baseball. In 2018, the right-hander posted a perfect mark of 10-0 across 15 starts, leading the entire nation with a .71 WHIP and a 1.06 ERA. The end result was a national pitcher of the year award from Perfect Game in addition to being named a consensus first-team All American by every major publication. Sandlin is already on the fast-track with Class A advanced Lynchburg where he’s currently teamed up with fellow Golden Eagle alum Kirk McCarty.   [READ MORE]
