Newspaper report: Conn. man on death row in fatal home invasion bragged of 17 killings
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) ' A published report says a Connecticut man convicted in a deadly home invasion bragged that he has killed 17 people, and disparaged his accomplice as "not even worthy" of his partnership.
The New Haven Register reports (http://bit.ly/oqBQTf) it acquired a letter that Steven Hayes allegedly wrote from prison, where he is on death row for a 2007 home invasion that killed a Cheshire woman and her two daughters.
The Register reports Hayes' letter to an unidentified pen pal bragged of kidnappings, rapes and murders and a penchant for taking women's sneakers as trophies.
A judge has rejected a request by attorneys for Hayes' accomplice, Joshua Komisarjevsky (koh-mih-sar-JEV'-skee), to introduce the letters in his defense. The judge called Hayes' claims uncorroborated.
Komisarjevsky faces life in prison or the death penalty when he is sentenced in coming weeks.
