Calif. city hosts massive 'Peanuts' Christmas display after family home lost to foreclosure
COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) ' The foreclosure crisis may have evicted Santa from his 44-year home in a Southern California suburb ' but it won't kill Christmas.
The city of Costa Mesa has offered to host a massive Christmas display of Charles Schulz's "Peanuts" characters after the spectacle's creator Jim Jordan lost the home where the tradition was born and flourished.
The move saved a wildly popular display that Jordan says draws 80,000 people each year ' including busloads of visitors, school groups and lines of children waiting to see Santa.
Jordan says he lost the house to foreclosure last year after he stopped paying the mortgage in the hope of qualifying for a loan modification.
The city will turn on the lights at the nearly 200-foot-long spectacle Tuesday evening.
