David Gibson on the Resignation of Pope Benedict XVI

By DMO Affiliate
Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday his resignation from the papacy at the end of February. David Gibson, a reporter for Religion News Service and author of “The Rule of Benedict,” says the decision—marking the first pope in nearly 600 years to resign—will be one of Benedict’s legacies. “This is an earthquake almost in terms of the papacy,” Gibson said. “This has always been a job that ended when they carried you out feet first. It was a job for life.” Benedict, 85, will continue as pope until February 28, and a successor will likely be chosen by Easter, which falls on March 31.
