You can create your own shortcuts for phrases and special text messages
This is Part 4 of our series by Shirley Craig called HIDDEN iPHONE TIPS & TRICKS
Sometimes when texting you often type the same phrase or send a long URL, which can be tiresome.
Well, did you know, that you can actually create keyboard shortcuts that will represent a phrase or other combination of key strokes. It's a really handy trick that you'll find you'll have lots of uses for.
Here's how you do it.
First go to Settings and select General.
Then scroll down under General Settings to Keyboard
Make sure the "." Shortcut switch is turned ON.
Note the tip: Double tapping the space bar will insert a period followed by a space.
Once you turn the toggle switch to ON, scroll down a little further to Add New Shortcut and select it by tapping on the > arrow.
Now you can type the phrase, url or anything else into this text field.
I chose, Call you back in a few, so I could easily text that out to people who telephone and whose call I can't momentarily answer. I chose the key combination of 'cc' to trigger this phrase.
Remember, to be mindful to use a combination of characters that you don't normally use.
Once you tap save at the top right of the screen, you'll see your keyboard shortcut listed under shortcuts. I have two. omw = On my Way! and cc = Call back in a few
Now when I get those telephone calls when I'm already on the phone, I simply double click the home button to multi-task, go to Text Messaging and type cc to send the text.
Pretty cool way to save some extra typing!
