Philomena star and screenwriter Steve Coogan is "a bit dumbstruck" that the film he's been "trying to push up a hill" since 2010 has made it to the Oscar stage with four nominations (best picture, best adapted screenplay, best actress for Judi Dench and best original score). "It all started with a newspaper article I read four years ago in The Guardian , wondering if I could make it into a feature film," says Coogan, who has been making the rounds with the real Philomena, who kept a secret for 50 years about a son she gave birth to out of wedlock, who was put up for adoption without her permission by Catholic nuns.
