Kari Bustamante has Aces vs Idaho Steelheads, CIC hockey with South vs East, UAA Alpine skiing, an update on Andrew Kurka and more Thu, 26 Jan 2017 07:26:28 +0000 Wednesday Sports January 25 Kari Bustamante has Aces vs Idaho Steelheads, CIC hockey with South vs East, UAA Alpine skiing, an update on Andrew Kurka and more KTUU can catch some serious ground on the steelheads as tonight the teams face off in the first of their 3 game series --the last time the two met...was earlier this month...with the steelheads taking two of three... --tonights contest...showing shades of the past...the steelheads jumping ahead early, anthony luciani puts it away...2-oh idaho --but the aces able to get on the board in the first...courtesy of mackenzie stewart... --aces first lead wouldnt come until the final minutes of the third...the game winner from nolan descoteaux... 4-3 aces win --in prep hockey tonight...the cic wraps up the regular season this week, south with a chance to clinch the top seed taking on east this evening --but its the tbirds that come out firing...already 1- nothing...laauli tosi...2-rip...east side --south would answer shortly after...skyler gutierrez...a hat trick from him tonight... --gutierrez nets the game winner in the second...also ben trujillo with three...south..the cook inlet champ...10-3 the final the seawolf men set to start the second half of the season...visiting saint martins tomorrow --the last time these two met, was new years eve in anchorage...the seawolves getting the win 55-49 --since then, the saints have won three straight...not to mention the teams been a tough 8 and 2 at home this year --but for uaa the biggest obstacle is beating a team, that might have figured them out the first half of league you go against an opponent yes they have film against you against others but now they have film on you against themselves now they know what their personnel does and how they can make adjustments its challenging every team from here on our knows us they know what we like to do what we do well what we dont do well so they are gonna come in with a good game plan tomorrows game tips off at 6pm alaska time speaking of the green and gold...uaa alpine skiing at alyeska today --its day one of the seawolf invite...with the mens and womens giant slalom --posting 117 points today...the seawolves sit fifth after todays competition --uaa trails fourth place new mexico by 6 points...and leads colorado by 3 --the women were led by charley field...posting a season best time and capturing the first podium finish of her career --field takes third with a two run time of 1 minute 47 point 81 seconds --as for the men...tony naciuk finishing with the team best tenth place finish in 1 minute 47 point 96 seconds ive raced here before and i had a couple good placing but its nice to win at home ive pushed to the podium the last couple races so its the icing on the cake and its for us heading into regionals and then nationals the seawolf invite will continue tomorrow with the mens and womens slalom races...the events originally scheduled for friday moved up due to weather and venue control also opening competition today...the world para alpine skiing d alaska's own andrew kurka is already on the podium --kurka taking home his first career title, in the mens sitting class --putting together two strong runs helped kurka edge the defending champion corey peters of new zealand --kurkas winning time 1 minute 11 point 55 seconds...was just six-tenths of a second better than second place and finally, from the slopes to the summit, channel 2s patrick enslow spent the day at a celebration for one 9 year old alaskan...who's already at the "peak" of her game "i'm here at soldotna elementary school with a pretty amazing story, now mrs. simmons asked her fourth graders at the begining of the year to write down their goals and dreams for the school year, or life in general. for one student a goal just kept popping up, and mrs. simmons didn't really know what that student was doing. little did she know she would act on that dream, and break three world records. we will have that story tommorow so make sure and tune in. reporting from soldotna patrick enslow channel 2
