http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12452/6777508?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Wed, 08 Feb 2017 15:12:01 +0000 Bridge Street: SU Women's Ice Hockey Fundraiser 2.8.2017 SU Women's Ice Hockey team's head captains, Emily Costales and Larissa Martyniuk, join Bridge Street to discuss their successful season and their upcoming fundraiser for veterans. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12452/6777508?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WSYR ABC 9 Syracuse >> sistina: thanks so much for joining us, you are wearing your jerseys right? >> we have camel jerseys, we are going to be doing suicide prevention, all proceeds will be going to the hospital on behalf of that cause. >> tenesha: so emily why did you pick that organization to support? >> i think it's mostly, to support the veterans. last year we did pink the rink, to support breast cancer and this year we decided to support the veterans. >> sistina: how has it been going so far? >> we're 10, 11 and 5. we are playing about second place in our league. >> tenesha: fantastic! so these jerseys you're going to wear them on friday and they are going to be auctioned online, how does that work? >> we'll tell people to follow our social media, and two weeks people will be able to bid on the jerseys. >> sistina: i have to say, girls hockey has evolved over the years, we've seen it take a rise, with you all at su. what does it feel like to play on a hockey team? >> it's a lot of fun. it's an honor i guess, because i mean you meet -- you say you play y university hockey, that's awesome. people don't even know we have a team sometimes. nice to get it out there, people know that we have games, and >> sistina: free. >> sistina: families can come! >> that's right that would be great. >> going through college it's nice to meet a lot of girls from around the country and around different places and stuff. >> tenesha: so you were saying it's an honor to play over here in the united states but emily you can play in canada right, there's universities you can play for? >> there's cis league canadian universities. but i think the opportunity to play ncaa is very different. it's like an awesome opportunity. >> sistina: you guys are top pickin's over here. wouldn't you agree hockey in canada is a big deal. more so than it has been here but it's risen a little bit, would you agree, people are getting more interested in it than they have? >> for sure would i say so. >> with the addition of nwhl at the national hockey league and stuff there are different lesion in boston and connecticut and women's lesion are getting bigger and expanding. >> tenesha: it's great that you do community events. clinton square, skated out there to get the word out for you all. that's awesome! so cool! >> sistina: and listen, syracuse women are playing against mercyhurst. special game jerseys will be available online at qs.com, following the game. as always,
