http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6820458?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Wed, 08 Mar 2017 19:24:27 +0000 Focus on the 4State: Yours Truly Tattoo The organizers of a recent event to benefit cancer research discuss how they use tattoos to spread awareness and raise money. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6820458?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WHAG >> welcome back. joining us now is bret and sarah and they put on an event at the yours truly tattoo in hagerstown and purchases going to relay for life. thank you for being here. >> thank you. >> i hear people talk about a lot of reasons to get a tattoo. this one benefits cancer research. a little unusual. what motivated you to start this? >> basically sarah came to us a few years ago to give back time and effort to the community. it's a great idea. a way that we can give back to the people who provided business to us. they give it to us and we try to give it back to them. >> sarah, i am sure there are a lot of businesses that you would like to get involved with the fundings at the relay for life. what drew you to, you know, a tattoo parlor? >> i love getting tattoos. and it has always been something i enjoy. what better way to think outside the box and get a whole other group of people involved? >> a lot of folks will wear the ribbon for cancer awareness. this is an opportunity to make that a little more permanent. right? >> sure. >> and we're looking at a couple of images here. are these some of the typical tattoos that individuals can get in regards to the relay for life? >> yeah, we have prepriced images that people can get. they also can get anything they want. it doesn't have to be cancer related. just that they know that the money is being donated to the american cancer society. >> this is the third year now. >> yup. it's great for the community. people that come out, we get to give back. >> as far as dollar amount do you have a goal for this year or this particular drive? or as much as you can. >> exactly. exactly. last year sarah was able to raise over $20 thousand. >> sarah, i guess as you have talked to your friends about this, what is their reaction? >> um they're not really shocked when it comes to me. they enjoy it. my friends come out and support the shop and support the cause we're going for. >> fantastic. so basically, do individuals need to make an appointment? >> it's all an a walk in basis. no appointment needed. first come first serve. they come in and tattoo them. usually there is a long wait. which is great. we want as many people to come out as possible. >> there is several here that you have. but maybe if somebody gets a little complex, is there going to be an additional charge? >> no, so what we do is get as many people through the door that day. if somebody has a more complex idea and something with more drawing time, we make a later date for them and we make proceeds that it's still for the benefit. we have appointments now, people in the next month that people are getting tattooed and this money is still being donated. >> obviously you both really have found a connection here. do you have any other personal connection to cancer or the reason that you're involved with this program? >> i have a two-time cancer survivor. my family has been touched by cancer a lot so to me it's a very personal thing. >> wow. okay. so you're located on pennsylvania avenue right here in hagerstown >> yeah. >> how much did you raise last year, do you know what we raised? this year about the same. come out and get a cancer ribbon of their choice. style and color and the proceeds go with the american cancer saturday. >> washington county. >> and i am sure you have other events scheduled here. >> we do. a big one in may. >> give us a little overview on how people can get more information. they obviouly can get their ribbon tattooed ready for the event in may. >> may 14th, mothers day in masondixon driveway. we will have a big event. all day long. car show, racing, anything, you name it, we have it, all right. bret and sarah from the yours truly tattoo in hagerstown, we appreciate you stopping by. >> thanks so much. >> coming up after the break, lawmakers are trying to hammer out the details of a balanced budget and what
