KOTA the cobblers and raiders meet up for their season opener. kota sports director>> the central and stevens baseball teams would both like to accomplish some big things this season. and tonight they opened things up by renewing their rivalry. stevens vs central>> a big crowd on hand for some friday night baseball at mckeague field. 1. top of the 6th, tied at 5, stevens' josh remily lines the single into center field. but the raiders couldn't bring him around. 2. bottom 6th, chris waterson connects for the solid hit into left field, he holds on at first with a single. the cobblers were also unable to score. 3. we needed extra innings, eric gonzales leads off the 8th by lining the single into right field, cooper haaaland bunted him over to second. 4. josh remily smacks the pitch into right field, the ball gets bootes which allows eric gonzales to score the winning run. the raiders start the season with an exciting 6-5 victory over central in eight innings. rc developmental meet>> the high school track and field season got going with the rapid city developmental meet. 1. let's start you out with the boys 400 meter dash, sturgis' jarrett keffeler wins in 52.04 seconds. 2. to the boys 3,200 meters, spearfish's logan broeder is out in front and he captures the victory with a time of 10 minutes and 37 seconds. 3. in the girls 3,200 meters newcastle's cathryn orbyn running hard to the end and she earns the win in 13 minutes and 36 seconds. 4. to the sand pit for the boys triple jump, sturgis' alec keffeler with a hop, skip, and a jump of 41 feet, 11 inches. that was good enough to win the triple jump out at the rapid city developmental meet. 00:00:01echl the rush is playing in alaska tonight. in the second period the game is tied at 1. rapid city needs a win to avoid being eliminated from the playoff chase. the new high school boys tennis season cranks up next week. and stevens is ready to turn in another strong campaign. stevens boys tennis team>> the stevens boys tennis team finished 4th at last year's state tournament. and the raiders are focused on delivering another big season. jason olson stevens tennis coach>> coach olson "we've got some strong players returning. we've got 12 or 13 guys battling for spots. across the state sioux falls lincoln is the favorite, they return everybody. out here st. thomas more will be very good so we'll get some good competition right here in rapid city. " andy guymon stevens senior>> andy guymon "we should be a pretty competitive team. we did well at state last year and are hoping to do so again. we're pretty deep." andy guymon is a veteran player that has racked up a lot of victories with the raiders. and coach olson is counting on him to turn in a strong senior season. jason olson "he was injured at the end of last year. he's back healthy now. he will contend for a state title. we have other guys in the mix." andy guymon "i'm super excited for the season i think our whole team is. the key to having success is just getting out there and hitting more tennis balls." you can expect singles to be stevens' strength this spring. but the head man knows his guys also need to develop their doubles play. coach olson "i always say doubles is the key. for us to be able to challenge a team like lincoln we have to have strong doubles play. so hopefully we can develop that. but now i'd definitely say singles is our strength. we have 7 or 8 solid signles players." ag>> blank - leave blank do not use or delete>> up next.... a class assignment turns into a good deed for the community.
