First up, we have The Lost City of Z, starring Charlie Hunnam and Tom Holland about the explorer Percy Fawcett as he searches for a lost civilization deep in the Amazon Rainforest. To dream. To seek the unknown. To look for what is beautiful is its own reward. A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what is heaven for? The film looks to be a very good epic. It is very much a throwback to the traditional adventurer's tale that you would see, however, it is a limited release. It will not be showing in the Columbus Malco, so you will probably have to go and find a larger market theater to be able to watch this movie. Early reviews are very positive, so if you have a chance, I would definitely go see it. The only other film this weekend is The Fate of the Furious, which no surprise there because what studio wants to go up against them besides Disney? The film follows the family as Dom seemingly turns on them in favor of Charlize Theron's new villain Cypher, who seems to be a militant hacker. You going to turn your back on family? Hobbs will try and lead the family against Dom as they also join up with Jason Statham's villain from Fast 7. The action setpieces look great. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray, who also directed Straight Outta Compton and The Italian Job, so you know he can tell a very good story while also having great action setpieces. The only real reason I want to see it is because I want a rematch of this fight from Fast Five. Maybe part two will be better. Who knows? Alright, you get style points for that one. There is some behind the scenes turmoil as Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson have not gotten along. Some people speculated this was a marketing stunt, however, it's been proven that it's not, so you might see the last of Dwayne Johnson's Hobbs in this one. If you don't want to brave the crowds at the theater this weekend and just want to chill on the couch and watch a movie, check out these Blu-rays that came out this past weekend. First up is Lion, starring Dev Patel as Saroo Brierly. The film follows Saroo as he gets lost as a child in a train station in India, is then adopted by an Australian family and as an adult decides to find his family back in India. Let's start with where you're from. Calcutta. Which part? I'm adopted. I'm not really Indian. It's a very good movie. Dev Patel was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Do you have any idea what it's like? How every day my real brother screams my name? It also stars Rooney Mara and Nicole Kidman. It is a true story, so if you're interested in that, make sure to check that out. Hidden Figures also came out this past Tuesday on Blu-ray, starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae as three African-American NASA employees who were integral to the success of the Friendship 7 mission. Friendship 7 was the mission where John Glenn orbited the Earth and was brought back home safely. It's a very good movie about segregation in the workplace and working through it. Audiences and critics alike loved the movie, so if you're looking for something warm and uplifting, it's definitely a movie that should be on your list. Besides the movie releases for this week, the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok dropped on Monday. It's amazing, I would definitely watch it if you haven't already. It's everywhere. It looks hilarious. Yess! We know each other! He's a friend form work! The film will follow Thor as he is banished by Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death, to a planet where he has to fight the Hulk and it basically becomes a cosmic, buddy, roadtrip movie. It's great and it also shows a few key Marvel easter eggs, like the first time that Thor's helmet has been shown. The winged helmet that he's known for in the comics and pretty much all of Norse mythology. It looks like fun, so watch the trailer if you haven't already. I hope you guys have a good week and tune in next time to see what's coming out in theaters and on Blu-ray.
