A year later, we check in with his friends and family. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6923169?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KMVT CBS 11 2 a year ago today... we told you about the death of ryan franklin. 2 he was a father, a teacher and a firefighter who was killed while biking in kimberly. 2 amy reid sat down with his family and friends to see how they recover a year later... and she joins us now. 2 last may... the franklin family went through tragedy. 2 and thanks to you... the community... they say they made it through what has been one difficult year... 2 2 2:34 i never dreamt i would already be at a year (2) 2 ryan franklin left a family... 2 ?nats? 40:57 lots of memories. it's almost... it's hard to believe he's still gone... that he is gone i guess (7) 2 friends... 2 9:56 i don't think we realized how great he was until he was gone. (5) 2 and a hole in the community... 2 2 3:38 he's a hard guy to replace and to fill the hole with anybody else in our lives... he was just a really sweet guy. (9) 2 ?nats? 2 on may eighteenth... 2016... franklin rode down this road. 2 a cross marks the spot he was hit by a car and did not recover. 2 41:53 it hit home that things can happen (3) 2 this isn't the place where those who knew ryan want to dwell. 2 there is no normal anymore. we just have to muddle through what we've got left and find peace in the little blessings we have every day. (19) 2 they choose instead to focus on ryan and what he stood for. 2 3:21 he just was an amazing person who seemed to have his priorities in line. he loved his job, he loved his kids, he loved me, he loved cycling, he loved basketball, he was just a passionate person, but he was so humble and kind hearted (15) 2 learning more as time goes on... 2 2 10:21 i felt like i spent the last five years getting to know him. and this last year i've learned mroe about him than i could have ever imagined. (10) 2 5:19 people wrote me letters, former students, former players, a lot of them wrote me letters and just said hey this is something that coach did for me or mister franklin did to me and it didn't surprise me because i knew that he was that type of guy, but i had no idea he had done those things (14) 2 ?nats? 2 back at the memorial... this bike sums up what ryan loved... god... family... and community. 2 11:35 i think ryan stood for god first, and after that family. and the best way to honor ryan is to spend time with family. doing fun things. laughter. that's what ryan stood for (16) 2 one thing ryan's friends and family want to come of this is more awareness for bikers on the road. 2 they don't want anyone else going through what they have. 2
