Charity Ice Hockey game played in Hagerstown Tue, 23 May 2017 02:25:38 +0000 Charity Ice Hockey game played in Hagerstown Charity Ice Hockey game played in Hagerstown WHAG morgan: just a few months ago, 3 children lost their mother to a tragic hit and run accident in hagerstown... to this day, the family is still recovering -- and seeking the community's help. on monday, they received it. whags nina kapur explains. <<kapur reporting: pucks were flying -- and laughter and some friendly competition filled the brisk air -- as local police and firefighters challenged each other to a game of ice hockey for a good cause. hockey puck kapur reporting: police -- aka the "guns" team and firefighters -- the "hoses" team consisted of first responders from hagerstown, frederick and montgomery counties competing against each other -- all for bentley dorman. kapur reporting: at just 6 months old, bentley has been through more than most people can imagine. benny hoover, bentley's uncle: bentley was born slightly club footed -- so he's had to have been casted since he was three months old non-stop, other than that he was three months premature. kapur reporting: also suffers from a stage one brain hemorrhage -- and in december of 2016, he lost his mother, katlyn hughes to a hit and run... katlyn left two other children behind as well. benny hoover, bentley's uncle: to hear a little girl cry, and beg to be with her mother, those are things you dont forget. kapur reporting: after the accident, his grandmother gained custody... and with that, she also gained his medical bills... but outpourings of support like monday night's game gives bentley's family reassurance that the community hasn't forgotten their tragedy and will continue to fight for them -- and justice for katlyn. josh stears, frederick county sheriff's office: its good to come out here and play with friends and people you work with, and give back to the community, and see everybody out here having a good time. kapur reporting: all of the donations will benefit the family and bentley's medical expenses... josh stears, frederick county sheriff's office: i hope they can take the money that we raised here today and do some good for the baby, i know they're struggling. kapur reporting: in hagerstown, hockey puck kapur reporting: nina kapur whag news. >> morgan: according to the family, the trial involving the hit and run driver, michael campher, has been postponed twice... most recently, it was supposed to be held this thursday but is now being rescheduled.
