http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6928671?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Tue, 23 May 2017 13:43:24 +0000 Rounding Out A Workout Matt and Heather talk to Davi Taylor, a fitness instructor from the Savoy Rec Center, about the many uses of a medicine ball during a workout. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/6928671?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WCIA keep you moving.>>matt: when it comes to exercise equipment, we have a playful new way to work every part of your body. it's called a medicine ball. >>heather: a perfect tool to have during your workout. savoy rec center sponsoring our get moving segment. today we are incorporating a medicine ball. >> let's round out the workout. >>matt: i could use dumbbells, resistance bars, why would i want to do this? >> keep it fresh. try new stuff. lots of the movements are the same. it's one more tool. >>heather: that tool comes in many different sizes and weights. >> the lightest one i could find is two kilograms. two and half pounds for everyone kilogram. you want to know what you are working with. give or take a 10th of a pound. >>heather: what can we do with these to get in a good workout? >> we have lots of options. upper body, lower body. added weight if you are doing squats and you can do two moves at a time. >>matt: will i look. if i do this at the gym. they have the bands, the have the bars. then they have the balls on the colored things that challenge your balance. will i look weird when i do something like this? >> well that's why i put it in my class so everyone is doing it. remember we did a partner workout before? if you are just - - a little bit of added weight. okay, regular squat. >>heather: i got this. my knees are cracking. >> it's because your heels are not on the ground. >>matt: this is dangerous. don't work out in high heels. so people at home know. >> every time that i squat, you squat. i will roll it to you. you'll pick it up into a little toss. stand up, squat again. >>heather: did i do that right? >> partner toss. >>matt: totally doable. >> every time you toss, you are getting a shoulder workout. >>matt: do you feel weird, heather. other than the fact you are in high heels? look at these things. this is my exercise equipment. >>heather: it doesn't. because i workout every single day. >>matt: can you buy these for home too? >> you can at dick's sporting goods. anywhere that has workout equipment. you can also do push-ups. one hand on the ball. over to the other side. mix it up. you can do amps abs. i just incorporate it. >>matt: how do i choose the size? >> that's when i would start picking a couple up and gauge. >>matt: - has guns, she's just wearing a sweater. >> we go all the way up to a 35 pound. >>matt: i've seen people slamming them into the ground. >>heather: what's up with that? >> that's plyometrics. i wouldn't. i don't like when people do it on my dance floor. ryan looks like he's dying to try this. >>matt: you can probably do the throw down on the floor there. >>ryan: i like my job. >>matt: we want to keep you here because you always give us great advice. you too can work out with something as simple as a medicine ball in different sizes. and you don't have to feel weird
