[laughter] he's overseas right now. he thought it would be tons of fun to give tours around springfield. and he just went for it >> tom: what kind of things are you showing people? >> guest: we have one tour that goes around downtown. showing facts about downtown, all that stuff. we go up you to commercial street for a couple, through the subdivisions through bass pro shop areas as well. so we get -- depends on the tour. but you get whatever you want. >> tom: tours of different lengths and durations? >> uh-huh >> joy: how many people can go at one time? >> guest: i believe we have a max of eight right now. because we have to have bikes for the tour guides as well. but eight people. we're getting more. it's getting bigger and bigger. >> joy: you do provide bikes. if you have our own bikes, can you bring your own? >> guest: you can bring one if you want. we've had people do that. we have helmets, everything you need. you just show up. and we have it all there. you can come and have fun. >> tom: it sounds like it would be a good time. >> guest: it reminds me of when i was a kid. it's great. >> tom: exactly. is it just your coaster brake-type bike? >> there's gears. but springfield is very flat. so you honestly don't have to change it much often. we go through that with the orientation >> joy: speaking of flat, that makes me wonder. even if it is relatively flat where you ride. not everybody is built for that. is it an exhausting sort of thing or leisurely? >> guest: i guess that's if you want it to be. there's tours that are really short, like i said. >> joy: how short is short? >> guest: an hour and a half is the shortest one. but we go at your pace. if you're wanting to go slow, we'll go slow. if you want to get it done, we'll get it done. it's up to you. you tell us, and we'll make it happen. >> tom: it's not constant pedalli pedalling. >> guest: yes, there's a park tour and coffee tours. and we go up to commercial street to learn about the art and all that kind of stuff and we go to potter's house and learn about cold brewed coffee and that kind of thing and we buy you drinks there and stuff. >> joy: that sounds great! i didn't realize there was all of that. >> tom: it's more than riding a bicycle. >> joy: la tour de springfield, i love that! we alter experiences! i like that you can do different things, learn about the city and the lay of the land there. and you know, it might get people out to ride more that don't ride a lot. i have a bike. we were saying during the commercial bike, i'm not sure where it is. >> tom: riding with a purpose works better. >> joy: yeah. it will get you out more to do this more often. how has the response been from the public? >> guest: it's been great. we've had one tour every weekend. which just starting out you as a new company, that's practically is amazing. it's tons of fun. >> tom: how did 1 million cups help you out? >> guest: it's been a huge help, their connection with everything. we've had magazines come and write articles. which in turns helps the business. people come by, all that kind of stuff. stuff around the organization with the community. we've had people outreach to us. and they're like hey, can you come speak about what you're doing? and it's like, heck, yeah! that would be so much fun! so we do that, yeah. >> joy: what have you learned in being a part of this? i know part of 1 million cups is to sort of give you ideas on how to grow a business. but also, people are willing to say, you know, you're not doing this the way you should. you need to change it. have you adapted based on the responses you've had? >> guest: yeah, you get so many different outlooks. you have one vision when you're doing something. but you get five other people and you have one person with an idea, you have different ideas off of one. >> joy: so more collaborative than you ask think. >> guest: yeah, the community is huge. >> tom: if people want to know more about springfield bike towers? >> guest: head to www.springfieldbicycletours... it's all right there. you can e-mail us, call us. all the information is on the website. >> joy: good idea! i've got to do this
