Real Sports Live - Hot Topics June 18, 2017 Mon, 19 Jun 2017 04:44:32 +0000 Real Sports Live - Hot Topics June 18, 2017 Real Sports Live - Hot Topics June 18, 2017 KTVX ABC 4 Salt Lake City >> it is time now for abc4 utah out's "real sports live." >> tonight on "real sports live" real salt lake had a much needed win on saturday night. should fans be optimistic about the second half of the season? the nba draft is just around the corner. who will the jazz take and will gordon hayward stick around? it is a busy week in action sports as lucas oil off-road series comes to town and there is an invasion at rice-eccles stadium. we'll hear from the drivers and riders from both events. and the newly heavyweight champion of the world. that and much more. "real sports live" starts right now. >>> good evening and welcome to "real sports live." i am scott mitchell. >> i am westerly rough. we have highlights and low lights and an opinion on a variety of sports to get to. scott, you choose where we start tonight. >> let's speculate about the nba draft. they have four picks including two first rounders. it just so happens that there are a handful of guys with utah ties that fall into that range in mock draft. they grew up in a homeless shelter before going to purdue. she played two and who would you most likely to see in a jazz uniform next season. >> boy, oh boy, that question needs to know what happens in a free agency. i think the free is agency should be decided first. if gordon hayward leaves that will change how the draft changes. i'm sure there is some reason and i just don't know what that reason is. if hayward stays frank jackson may be a good fit. good athletic guard and he can play both positions. a little under sized, but he is the most athletic guy that position that can play two spots in the nba. i would think frank jackson, you have a guy who goes to high school and ends updrafted in the first round by his hometown. >> they like him. i think they really like him. >> i think of the three swannigan may be the best of the three. whether he fits in with the jazz i don't know but i like the idea of the local ties. you hope to have the player. it is interesting to see what happens after the draft and free agency. >> you think you know what players are on your team and what aren't on the team. you draft them to fill those needs. it seems backwards to me. >> what do we get in the draft. we have a half dozen or 6 of another. >> and every year i go off about this and the closer the draft gets in any sport, the more value these players have. it is all fake value. most of these guys are making n a impact in the nba, but it will make a come years. we theed this guy, we need this guy and ah! and most of them don't even play much. >> the lottery pick and tre lyles. and i don't think any of these guys who are in the draft are as good as those guys. who knows? chad our producer and they have the local guys going to the jazz. >> whether they pan out or not i hope one of them ends up here. >> sell -- celtics traded the number one draft to the sixers. why did the celtics make this move? it god jazz attention. are they making a run at gordon hayward? social media just lit up last week with jazz fans hour weed about what his daughter was wearing in an instagram post. she had a shirt on with a shamrock. they started following hayward on instagram which ignited another social media firestorm. we didn't have anything for them to do with gordon hayward. >> if you get the number one pick in the draft it is saying something. i always had the sneaky suspicion. i said it several times on the show. he is beloved here and he played more seasons and you brought that up and then it just felt like oh he is not going to leave. i don't know. i just have this suspicion that the boston celtics have this tremendous history. it may be the marquis probe. it has great history. and you put this one-two punch together with isaiah thomas and gordon hayward. with the other cast that's there it makes them formidable and teams have shown if we are willing to share the basketball and willing to let a couple superstars involved in this, we can go places. i just seen that all along and it would not surprise me if he ends up there. >> the talk now is not just making a run at gordon hayward, but at blake griffin at the clippers. and now we find out paul george of the indiana pacers say he is not coming back so you may as well trade him now. where will he end up? it will make him a super duper team, and the warriors are having a super team. how about having irving, love, lebron james and paul george on the same squad? >> it is crazy. this is going to be an interesting couple of weeks. draft this thursday and jazz have four picks and whether they trade those or not or make use of them and who knows , and then you have free agency coming up. gordon hayward leaves -- >> it would not be a good thing. and never count out the luck of the irish. just telling you. just through the years they found a way to -- i mean, shoot, they ended up with a first pick in the draft. >> after a road trip they had 11 goals in these games. >> he got the deciding goal in the 84th minute coming in as a substitute. a corner kick here in -- at the right place at the right time. boom. the signal toward the bench and the zip your lips. good forgetting the victory and what do you think about the gesture after the goal? >> speaking from experience you never ever want to show off your head coach in public. >> what experience do you have? >> trust me, it was a joke and it was intended to be funny. don't show up your head coach in public. >> so it wasn't as funny? >> it is not so much that you think it is funny and maybe your teammates think it is funny and maybe the coach and they are saying all of the right things, but the perception of it, he may go on in his career and be this great player. people will come back to that moment. >> i don't know if we can say he was doing it toward the head coach or toward the fans. i don't know who he was doing it too. he was pretty -- >> when the coach talks about it afterwards. >> he said, yeah. ii wanted him to come in as a substitute and score a goal and slam the door. that's what i want from him. it wasn't an earth shattering goal. it was almost like he had tried to call foul. >> everybody thought it was a handball and it was odd because they had 29 shots and 9 shots on frame. >> what has to be interesting is now the team is back at full strength. they will be a different team and maybe this will be the spark that gets them back into the groove. >> >> but i
