To interest the younger generations, Industrial Martial Arts sets up booths at community events and teaches kids how to break boards and other cool tricks http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12833/6965387?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WCIA it is time to check in with maggie and ryan. welcome back to "ci living" beautiful our town sullivan, hanging out with sonny. >> he was just here, there he is, yeah. >> but we are also learning about something entirely different. we are learning a little bit about martial arts. >> martial arts here in sullivan is cool. >> i want to bring in my friend joe kennedy. you are the owner of industrial martial arts and now i have had a chance to come tout the studio before, when i did a story about your top champions out there. talk to me about what is it like being able to have a martial arts place right here, right here on the square? >> it is fantastic. i mean, we opened in january of last year, 2016. and it is great. we had 150 people come out for when we opened. we retain add good portion of that, about 50%, sullivan is great town and great community support and it is exciting to be here. >> what about the kid. how do you get kids involved in this? >> like this? they come out and have fun. >> we see it and i know we have a little video we can show, folks, too, about the fact you have a lot of multigenerations here, too. you have a grandfather, grandson duo, and is that a cool thing that you are able to have multigenerations? >> yes. family is our main focus. we want families. our pricing and program is based around families. they come together, they stick together. >> i like that term. so, enough of us standing here yapping, let's see martial starts and tell us what we will see. >> you will see live action spar, the kids have full protective gear on. head-to-toe. so they don't get hurt. >> i will step out of the way here so i can be in the way. we will hand it over to these guys here. this is what we call combat weapons sparring. >> i will get out of the way. >> they fight with the stick here. it is fiberglass rod with a covering so i pretty much can get hit and not get hurt. >> that's what i need. chin up. shake hands. yes, huh! ugh! we will let them go continuous and we let them do that in class in prac his for more realistic fight scenarios new be in a tournament it is based on points. when someone scores we call break and point. so break! all right. thank you. corners. ready! highya ( ) and then we restart it. >> looks like it teach as lot of discipline. i mean is that kind of a way of kind of understanding and even while doing something that definitely looks fun? >> yes, definitely, our -- one of the slogans is logic discipline honor. discipline is very integrated into the program. into everything we do. from the life skills we teach through martial arts. >> maggie you made it back over. >> yes, i did. i'm thinking about the gear and saying i don't want to get hit. i agree with the discipline. the age of the kids, you would never be able to guess because they are just so in tune with what they are doing and they are listening to what you are saying which i think is also very cool. they are getting -- >> go! respar. >> we will fight with our hands and feet. and one thing, too, with some activities especially if you live in a smaller community you have to drive into a larger community to have something like this. is it nice people have this right ear in sullivan and don't have to drive far? >> it is very nice to have it right here. we have matthew and we have students from up here, so they will open the school up here and we -- our numbers exploded. >> well, joe, thank you so much. thank you to you guys for giving this martial arts demo. >> hey, chin up! shake hands. >> very good. good job, guys. >> what a way to go out with the hands. >> definitely. we will end on that note and send things
