http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7003353?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Fri, 14 Jul 2017 21:03:16 +0000 Upcoming Events In Mattoon Matt talks to Angelia Burgett, the Mattoon Tourism and Art Director, about upcoming events scheduled in the Mattoon area http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7003353?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WCIA one of the great things is it's a cool town. there's lots of different things to do. we talk with anning angela ia ber jet. ear the person to see when people want to find out what's happening here. >> we have a lot going on here. next week is the biggest festival, bagel fest. it's full of fun things to do for the family. lots of music and food and a lot of volunteers. >> why bagels? >> lender's bagels is home here, as you know. 1986 mary lender came to town and said, let me show what a bagel is. we had a free bagel breakfast downtown and started something great. >> you guys promote matoon year-round. this isn't just bagel fest, but you try to bring people here all times of year? >> absolutely. one of our other things is light work over the thanksgiving holiday. we fill peterson park with lights. people drive through and sing holiday songs and drink hot choke late. it's another opportunity to have family time. >> how wholesome. i love that. >> it's fantastic. >> i rode in on a healthy car, and now we talk about the good, wholesome the activities. give me a sense of what matoon is about. >> the finest quality is people show up for what's happening here. they say, what can we do to help? they show up for volunteering. they show up to help their community. a lot of the things you see are a demonstration of that. >> you see right over here the old depot. there's a lot of pride in the history of this town, too. >> absolutely. that depot is a arts and cult cultural center now. it's a great place to find out what's going on around here. >> your office is grate place to find out what's going on around here, too. people can see you. in what capacity can you help either local businesses who might try to get familiar with this and get on the bandwagon or folks wanting to make a day trip this summer? >> we continue it a point of pride to get businesses connected with people. if you want to get involved, come along and we'll find a place for you. that's a good place to start. >> what's the most quirky event or fun thing that you think people would really enjoy or would remember about matoon? there's lots of great towns here, but matoon is special in a lot of different ways. >> we are bagels and quilts and a lot of quilters who do a lot of exhibits and shows. we have ukuleles. there's through unique things, but bagels are the most unusual for a little midwestern town. >> for sure. how cool is that? i love it. thank you so much. we appreciate it. let's do our town matoon. how great is that? if you want to know what she does on a regular basis, when you're a business or come to figure out what to do for a cool weekend, come on
