How a Utah company is making life easier for its customers Mon, 17 Jul 2017 12:34:07 +0000 How a Utah company is making life easier for its customers How a Utah company is making life easier for its customers KTVX ABC 4 Salt Lake City challenging. on the upside growth is strong and wages are slowly growing. we only have a new segment you may have noticed on good morning utah. every monday we are submitting innovative utah businesses that are pioneers in their field part two by holland and hart. this maneuver introducing you to another company. for property owners, property managers and people that live on properties. dave with us this morning. good morning. >> good morning, good to be here. >> brian: what is entrada? >> i was a student at byu and lived in the apartment community. i couldn't pay my rent online. >> brian: i remember those times. i was at byu and lived in an apartment there.sometimes it is hard to keep up with the money! >> yet, as frustrating as it was to not be able to pay rent online, i was equally opportunistic in realizing that maybe there's an opportunity to help apartment communities fulfill a service. so was the genesis of our company and products. >> brian: so you are thinking forward. not only about the money you are losing each month trying to keep up but maybe i can do something with this! >> yes, we wrote a business plan. we got the company launched and for 13 years now we have been adding more and more products to help consumers, renters specifically to pay rent online. submit work orders online and automate various things that renters have to do.soon the basic thing is you are making the process easier for people that rent or manage renters to be able to pay rent, is that the basic idea? >> that is how it started. today we offer over 40 products to apartment communities. 30,000 apartment communities all over the us. they run our product. basically when i three apartment in the us are now running our solutions. >> brian: no kidding? that's a big deal! >> we have come a long way. >> brian: what is the latest pioneering idea? >> just this month we have announced our first into the hardware world. so far it really has not reached the apartment world. everything from smart locks, thermostats, water sensors, to detect if there is a one of the. just anything and everything you can imagine. renters will be able to talk to alexa to turn the lights off, open their doors, locked doors and so forth.>> brian: i think a lot of people like that. i am a homeowner that does not have a say. a lot of people renting look at this before i do, thanks to you! >> yes. we are hard at work on that. >> brian: what is the next thing coming down the pipe? >> really the home automation pushed is what we are going toward. we are also now offering a full-blown accounting software package. or as we say, an erp to the apartment world. to keep track of who has paid, who owes money and also to pay bills, pay the people that cut the lawn and things like that. >> brian: there a lot of things and you can stream on here. what has been the reaction so far from people using these different products? >> it has been very well received. we are in a space that, the technology has been very lagging and slow. we have over 800 engineers at the company now.we are moving at a very blistering place in the terms of waves we are able to innovate. the industry is really glad that we have come along and shown up. >> brian: what about when everything else has been doing? why are you the first to figure this out? i mean it is 2017! >> right? really when it comes down to is the companies have been providing solutions in the space built technology on architectures that date back to the 1980s. so they have tried feverishly to evolve the solutions and kind of convert them into a more modern platform. but you really cannot do it. once you have a base it is hard to innovate and bring things into the web. restarted after that era so we have been able to have a little bit of a length of. >> brian: capitalizing an opportunity. the guys at entrada making it happen. wicked people go for more information? >> >> brian: every monday we celebrate innovative companies. thank you for being here with us. good
