http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7008999?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Thu, 20 Jul 2017 14:17:54 +0000 LML: LIVE AT NUBAR YMCA LET'S GO LIVE TO THE NUBER YMCA ON QUINCE AS WE JOIN ASTRONOMY ENTHUSIAST AND FORMER U OF M PROFESSOR http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7008999?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WATN >> local memphis live continues with your host, amy speropoulos. >>amy: our next guest for having the first ever client night and as the enemy at the people's museum. it is one of many ways the museum is joining forces to help everyone get ready for the big solar eclipse coming up on august 21 20 is live to tell us about it in the astronomy enthusiast and a parent and john mulligan. are you?ning, gentlemen. >> good morning. we are fantastic. >>amy: tell us what is going on? what are we going to be able to see with this great eclipse that is coming? >> this is awesome. good morning, amy, and thank you for having us. we are at the newburgh ymca off of quint and we are here to announce the first pink palace family science night. it's going to be july 28 from seven until 10:00 pm so it is a friday evening. members can come in at 6:30 but our goal of this whole event is to prepare people to learn and to know more about the eclipse and what it is going to be like. what we are doing is on the ground at the pink palace museum, he will have hands-on activities inside and outside of the pink palace. it will be so cool. we are going to have a couple food trucks and there are going to be joy rides. she has award-winning humans images. cuban sandwiches. >> jumpy jellybeans is going to have a moon bounce and american paper optics is going to have a giant sunglasses, or good sunglasses. the best part of what we are doing here emma and also the ymca is going to have an astronaut boot camp. we will talk about that in a little bit. i will tell you what i am excited about. we are going to have telescopes on the long at the pink palace. it is going to be hosted by the american astrological society. he will have professors from rhodes college and the university of memphis which brings us to former professor dan perry and he will tell us about the telescope and what we will be watching friday night july 28 at the pink palace museum. >>amy: tell us about that. >> this is just one of a dozen telescopes we will have on the lawn at the pink palace that evening. it is available for members to come and look through the telescope and also participating in the event that night. this guy is very cooperative right now. we will see craters of the moon through these telescopes. will be able to see jupiter and its four moons, four of his moons, rather. and we can see saturn's rings. a dozen or so people will be having the telescopes set up will be pointing out a few of the summer constellations such as scorpius and sickness in the sky for people. by coming you'll get a few more tips as john discussed earlier about the solar eclipse on august 21. the do's and don'ts about the eclipse, you might want to go to get the best of you, how long it will last and such things. we will be there to answer any questions people might have about the summer sky or about the cover solar eclipse base rate that is so fun. tell me, ed, what do you think events like this are so important, really, for young and young at heart? >> i'm sorry. i didn't get that. >>amy: why do you think events like this are so important? >> no, the solar eclipse will come through southeast missouri and western kentucky, and there is a county up in missouri called perry county were a number of people from the memphis astronomical society are going. there's in kentucky in preston and nashville are the closest parts. in memphis the site will be 94 percent covered. if you go up to the band i discussed, it will be 100 percent covered. you will have a total solar eclipse where the day turns into night for about 2 and a that is fabulous. ed, thank you for joining us. join, with the pink palace, it is going to be an exquisite, fun night for everyone. is finally night at the palace, messages him.org music museum this method using.com. >> we have a summer
