http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7029570?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Thu, 03 Aug 2017 21:40:44 +0000 The Green Children are coming to town Kenny Chumbley shares information on his book coming to the theater. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12463/7029570?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WCIA >>heather: and award-winning book that tells the tale of an incredible bond that exist between the truest of france is being brought to the stage it's happening in your community. joining us today is author and - -. good to have both of you. >> thank you. >>heather: let's talk about the green children. a book that you wrote. what's it about? >> it's based on english legend. a boy and a girl that came out of a hole in the ground. they would only eat green beans. in the legend, the boy dies early on. the girl was adopted. to this day, the people claim they aren't descendents of her. >>matt: where did you come across this story? >> - - [indiscernible] >>matt: was there a significance to the green in this? >> they think they had a condition related to the chlorine. >>heather: this book is actually award-winning. >> literary classics gave it the 2017 children's storybook award of the year. >> congratulations. >>heather: now we are bringing it to the theater. >>matt: in trying to adapt this for the stage, did you write the stageplay? >> i had a friend to the first adaptation. we changed it 1000 times. a friend of mine wrote the lyrics to a couple songs. we kind of put stuff together to make an extravaganza out of it. >>matt: you have to take that and bring it to life on the stagewishes an which is an entirely different medium. >> taking someone's ideas and putting form and structure to them in the theater so that there is an, a cohesive storyline. putting it onto the stage is really natural because of the type of story it is. about community and people enjoying being around each other. basking in the love and radiance that happens in that community. that's the naturally fun thing to see. >>heather: it's not coming to the theater until next month. one day you are actually giving back. >> thursday night september 14 is cunningham children's home benefit. tickets are $10, half of that goes to cunningham. it's a wizard of oz type of show. >>heather: we are going to have a sneak peek coming up. - - and flora introduce you to the entire cast. they run the show and they will introduce you to the other folk. >>heather: how can we get tickets?
