http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12513/7067570?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Wed, 30 Aug 2017 22:02:59 +0000 Small business owners respond to President's tax plan Sara Forhetz shares why these Springfield business leaders back the plan. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12513/7067570?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KY3 - KYTV in springfield, emily wood, "ky3 news." >> ethan: sara forhetz was also there for the president's speech today and has more on how local small business owners are reacting to the president's call to reform the tax system. >> reporter: ethan, several small business owners in the crowd. loren cook, the biggest one, 600 employees. we talked to a guy who has 12 employees and he echoed that saying yes, we've got to reduce that crushing tax burden in order to produce only in america and not here and elsewhere. and in the president's words to make america great again. >> the tax code is so complicated that more than 90% of americans need professional help to do their own taxes. this enormous complexity is very unfair, it disadvantages ordinary americans who don't have an army of accountants. >> reporter: complicated and crushing, president trump kicking off the start of rewriting the tax code. springfield business owners say relieving the tax burden will mean help for the bottom line. for shawn duggins, it's about selling homes. >> changing the tax code and not having the army of accountants to do taxes, make it simpler, make it easier to get through the red tape. >> reporter: bwi sanitation echoed that sentiment. >> the comment the president made is music to our ears. not necessarily directly to us, but as other companies are able to get relief from taxation, they will grow and then in return that will help us grow as well. >> reporter: the owner has 12 employees. he says with higher taxes, business' first cut event hosting like this, company parties, et cetera, which flushes his profits down the drain. >> with tax burden in relief that money is going to be spent. >> if we put our businesses at such a tremendous disadvantage. we must reduce the tax rate on american businesses so they keep jobs in america, create jobs in america, and compete for workers right here in america. the america we love. >> reporter: and so ethan, what does that mean for the average joe if you are not a business owner. the president says under his new simple plan he's going to take it back to 1935 when the tax code was two pages long and most all americans did it themselves, never had to hire an accountant. right now it is 100 pages long. he
