DONATIONS ARE POURING IN TO A NUMBER OF AGENCIES AND LOCAL SHOPS--BUT THE LOCAL BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU SAYS RESIDENTS SHOULD BE MINDFUL OF WHO THEY'RE DONATING TO. (Glenna Friedrich/San Angelo, Better Business Bureau): "You need to know that what you're donating is going to go to people who are hurt the most." FRIEDRICH SAYS TO BE CAREFUL OF GOFUNDME ACCOUNTS UNLESS YOU KNOW THE PERSON WHO STARTED THE ACCOUNT SHE SAYS DONATING ITEMS CAN PRODUCE A PROBLEM AS WELL--WHETHER THE INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP ACCEPTING THE ITEMS FOR TRANSPORT HAS GOOD INTENTIONS OR NOT. (Glenna Friedrich/San Angelo, Better Business Bureau): "Their intentions may be great, even, there are scams and then there are people who intend well but don't have the resources and stuff to deliver." (Tim Grider/Salvation Army): "Wednesday Thursday and Friday as it was on the gulf forming I was getting calls from people who lived HERE saying they were hurricane victims." GRIDER SAYS HE UNDERSTANDS THE PUBLIC'S WILLINGNESS TO HELP THE REGION AT THIS TIME--BUT SAYS RIGHT NOW THOSE WITH ITEMS TO DONATE SHOULD WAIT UNTIL THE STATE ADVISES THEM OTHERWISE. HE SAYS THOSE WHO FEEL COMPELLED TO DONATE ITEMS SHOULD DONATE BLANKETS AND SHEETS FOR TWIN OR FULL SIZE MATTRESSES--TOILETRIES--AND TOWELS. DONORS SHOULD ALSO HAVE ANY CANNED FOOD OR DRY GOOD ITEMS ON STAND-BY. (Tim Grider/Salvation Army): "People early on were a little hurt when they brought stuff to us and I told them to wait--this is why I told them to wait. No one is able to accept, receive or distribute anything right now in those affected areas." AS OF NOW, THE STATE IS TELLING GRIDER SAN ANGELO AGENCIES SHOULD BE ON STAND-BY AS THERE'S NOW A FIFTY-FIFTY CHANCE THE CITY WILL HAVE TO TAKE IN EVACUEES. VICTOR GUZMAN...KLST NEWS>>
