http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12513/7072330?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Sat, 02 Sep 2017 23:28:12 +0000 Rescheduled Sodus Point fireworks, little to late for some A summer of high water and few tourists means business can't be made up in a night http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12513/7072330?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WSYR ABC 9 Syracuse tammy: there's also a big show in sodus point tonight. in just a few hours, they'll celebrate the fourth of july. you may remember, fireworks have been delayed nearly two months. it's usually a big boost for local businesses, but as newschannel nine's sean martinelli shows us, families are still recovering from a rainy summer and high water levels on lake ontario. sean: things start to get quiet this time of year in sodus point... as walks on the beach and morning boat rides make way for apple picking and the start of fall... sean : "but the impending end of summer is welcome news for business owners like here at hots point restaurant. they're ready to put behind a season of record high water levels. kelly grey, hots point owner: "the patrons that we've had have been absolutely wonderful. but haven't had the boaters, the out of towners. even our seasonal residents, a lot of them didn't come back because of the weather." sean that means fireworks in september likely won't have the same boost around here like they do in july. kelly grey: "you have to remember the weathers cold. it's going to rain again. and a lot of people just aren't here." sean and owner kelly grey says one day can't fix a whole summer. she's already had to cut 9 employees from her staff. kelly grey: "i'm really hoping that this doesn't happen again. i'd like to be optimistic. but deep down inside i have a feeling this is all going to start again in late february. let's hope not." sean sean the hope of next year's possibilities clouded by the memories of summer here cut too short. in sodus point sean martinelli
