Student-Athlete of the Month - December Thu, 07 Dec 2017 03:52:23 +0000 Student-Athlete of the Month - December Student-Athlete of the Month - December WHAG well we have one final student athlete of the month pair in 2017....> and this month the award goes to a pair of our fall state champions....> haley barge helped lead linganore soccer to its first state championship in school history this fall "i hope they know that they can accomplish anything -- even though other people are trying to tell them that they won't amount to anything -- that they can prove others wrong" she tied the school record this season with 23 goals - but also maintains a 4.5 gpa in the classroom "i think i just dedicate time -- equal amount of time to both -- athletics and academics -- of course academics comes first" the senior takes it upon herself to be on the leadership teams of 6 different organizations "it's important because in the real world you're going to have a lot on your plate and i think it's good to get the experience now as to having to juggle multiple things" this season taught her a lot but the biggest lesson she learned??? "it takes grit to win you have to work with your teammates" another state champion is getting it done in the classroom -- martinsburg quarterback tyson bagent.... "yeah i mean you're only in high school once -- you get to go for four years so you might as well go as hard as you can -- so that's kind of how i look at it - you know i'm not going to have to deal with this in the years to come - so i just try to go as hard as i can in every single phase of my high school career" he and his team have won back to back state championships off two undefeated seasons.... "the one thing i'll remember -- you know i'll remember all the people all the guys all the coaches you know not being from around here showing up my freshman year they took me in and four years later they're my brothers " the senior is interested in english and psychology and says football is definitely in his college plans....he has a 3.9 gpa "get my bachelors get my masters degree i'm not sure what in yet -- but that is definitely the goal and i think it's definitely something i can strive for -- and something that i can achieve eventually." congratulations to haley barge of linganore soccer -- and tyson bagent from martinsburg football....our december student athletes of the month -- reporting for wdvm sports -- i'm allie berube morgan: we're back with more news after the
