http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12449/7178911?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Sat, 18 Nov 2017 01:59:45 +0000 Man accused of hitting dog with baseball bat in Springfield Man accused of hitting dog with baseball bat in Springfield http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12449/7178911?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KEZI is kezi 9 news at 6" a small dog is recovering in the hospital tonight after police say a hospital tonight after police say a springfield man hit her with a baseball bat. that man is facing animal abuse charges -- and he just called the newsroom to tell us his side of the story. thanks for joining us. i'm matt thanks for joining us. i'm matt templeman. i'm renee mccullough. the dog was just reunited with her owner in the last couple of hours. kezi 9 news anchor kalyn norwood joins us live in the studio with our top story. kalyn? matt, renee -- a very upsetting discovery for her owner. lillith -- a terrier mix -- was found with a large cut on her skull. she was reunited with her 14 and 11 year old human this afternoon. police say they got a call from a neighbor this morning. he said he saw a man chasing and hitting a dog with a baseball bat, near 25th and "d" streets police say 38-year-old ryan kastrava was angry at the dog.. so angry that they believe he hit the dog with an aluminum baseball bat. an animal control officer found her and took her to the emergency veterinary hospital. that's where the owners met up with lillith today. "they were able to let hi spend few minutes with her and enjoy some time with her and make sure that he can see that she's alive and she's a little worse for ware but we'll hopefully be okay in the long run." kastrava just called the newsroom moments ago.. and says he was upset because the dog was digging into his chicken coup... and the chickens were hurt. but, police say none of the chickens were hurt. he says this has all been blown out of proportion. kastrava is facing charges of second degree animal abuse. right now -- vets are monitoring the dog for any brain or internal injuries. the dog's family is hopeful she'll make a full recovery. live in
